Pregnancy is one of the most stressful periods a woman may face in her lifetime. The first childbirth is classified “severe” among the listings of psychosocial stresses. 10–15% of pregnant women experience anxiety disorders and depression. The statistic greatly increases to 50% of Antenatal- Maternity care suffer from anxiety and depression. “Studies show that there is an association between the mental health of women during the prenatal period and the outcomes of pregnancy."  A woman experiencing stress and anxiety during pregnancy increases the likelihood of postpartum depression and impact a child’s development. Backed by Science: Studies show that stress management, relaxation techniques offers nonnarcotic safe and natural alternatives. Promote relaxation with scientifically proven methods to reduce anger, anxiety, depression, stress, and pain as well as improve positive mood, memory, and quality of life for both mom-to-be and baby. Neurodevelopment delays include anxiety, ADHD and lower cognitive development and diseases such as asthma on the other. Stress in intrauterine life has the potential to adversely affect short-term and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes with implications for altered susceptibility for mental health disorders in childhood and adult life.

Evidence-based Results

(1) Relaxation had a positive impact on women's emotional state.

(2) Pregnancy outcomes improved with fewer admissions to the hospital, fewer obstetric complications, longer gestation, reduction of cesarean sections, and fewer postpartum complications.

(3) Fetal heart rate and fetal motor activity were reduced as a result of relaxation and therefore interpreted as an improved result.

(4) Higher-birth-weight and improved performance on the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale was related to relaxation.

(5) Relaxation training was associated with reductions in maternal physiological and endocrine measures. Relaxation during pregnancy is associated with salutogenic effects that include regulation of emotional states and physiology. Relaxation is also associated with positive effects both on fetal behavior and on obstetric and neonatal outcomes.
